Our family is descended from
hearty Scotch-Irish stock that can be traced back to the Cumberland Valley
Area of Pennsylvania in the mid-1700's. Two brothers,
James
and Henry Morrow
lived in Cumberland County near the town of Greencastle in Peters Township
as early as 1778. In 1784, the counties were redefined and this area became
Franklin County and still is today. James and Henry married two sisters,
Sarah and Elizabeth, daughters of William
and Elizabeth Hannah who settled in the same area as early as 1753.
After William Hannah's death in 1785, the brothers decided to moved west
to the Pittsburgh area. James settled about 8 miles south of Pittsburgh
in St. Clair Township in then Washington and now Allegheny County. Henry
came along a few years later and settled in Wilkins Township near the Old
Forbes Road, just east of Pittsburgh on land willed to the brothers by
their father-in-law, William Hannah. Descended from these two brothers
are many generations of farmers, teachers, those who held public offices
and many free spirits.
