Apple Internet Connnection Kit Configuration

Installation of the Apple Internet Connection Kit

Before you can begin you must first install the Apple Internet Connection Kit if you have not done so already. To do this, insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive (or the install floppy into your floppy disk drive). Once the Apple Internet Connection Kit icon appears on the desktop, open the disk and start the Installer program. Follow the instructions on screen to install the software. Once the software has been installed you will need to restart your Macintosh.

Setting up a Dial-in Connection

Once you Macintosh restarts, you will see a program window called the "Launcher". Within this window there will be a button called "Internet Kit". Click on this button if it is not already on. You should see several buttons on the screen. Some of their names will be Apple Internet Dialer, Netscape, Claris E-Mailer, etc. Here's how to proceed

  1. Click on the "Apple Internet Dialer" button in the launcher.

  2. When the resulting screen comes up, click on the "OK" button.

  3. Select "Set Up Existing Account" from the "Provider" menu.

  8. In the "Settings" screen, select your modem from the list, then the port to which the modem is attached (if you have a Performa, Powerbook, or PowerMac with an internal modem select the ³Modem² port)

You are now ready to test your dial-in connection. Simply click on the "Connect" button to dial the phone and log in to our service. If all goes well you will see a status dialog telling you what the modem is doing. This dialog will then go away and be replaced by Netscape Navigator (started by default when you open a connection). To disconnect, simply click on the "Disconnect" button in the Internet Connection Status Screen.
