Windows 95 and Internet Explorer Configuration
This document will give you directions on how to set up Microsoft Internet Explorer
for Windows 95 for use with Infobahn International, Inc (III). This document has the following
sections:
- Determining the Version of Internet Explorer present
- Starting the Internet Setup Wizard
- Setting up Internet Explorer 2.0x
- Configuring Exchange to use Internet mail
- Setting up Internet Explorer 3.0x
- Setting up Internet Mail (included with IE 3.0)
- Setting up Internet News (included with IE 3.0)
Determining the Version of Internet Explorer present on your system
To determine the version of Internet Explorer present on your system to the following:
- Click on the Start button.
- Select Programs from the Start menu.
- Select the Accessories program group from the Program sub-menu.
- Select Internet Tools from the Accessories sub-menu.
- Select Internet Explorer from the Internet Tools sub-menu.
- Once Internet Explorer starts, select About Internet Explorer from the Help menu.
- In the resultant Dialog you should see the version number of the program. Note
this version number for later use.
Starting the Internet Setup Wizard
Microsoft provides a setup wizard that will allow you to easily configure/reconfigure
your copy of Internet Explorer. This wizard will do things such as install software
components (if they are not already installed) and configure them once in place.
If you have never had an Internet connection before, the simplest way to start the Internet
Setup Wizard is to double-click on the "The Internet" icon on the desktop. If you
already have a connection through another provider (or get the dial-up networking
"Connect To" screen after double-clicking on the "The Internet" icon), the you can
start the Internet Setup Wizard using the following:
- Click on the Start button.
- Select Programs from the Start menu.
- Select Accessories from the Programs sub-menu.
- Select Internet Utilities from the Accessories sub-menu.
- Select Get on the Internet from the Internet Utilities sub-menu.
Now that the Internet Setup Wizard is running, skip to the section appropriate for
your version of Internet Explorer.
Setting up Internet Explorer 2.0x
Listed below are the steps involved in using the setup wizard that comes with Internet
Explorer version 2.0.
- Click on the Next button.
- Click on "Connect using my phone line" in the How to Connect section, then click
on the Next button.
- Click on "I already have an account with a different service provider", then click
on the Next button.
- Click on "Yes" when asked if you want to use Exchange to send and receive E-mail.
Click on the Next button.
- Click on the Next button.
- Choose the modem to use from the list (most people will have only one choice).
Click on the Next button.
- Enter "Infobahn" for the "Name of Service Provider". Click on the Next button.
- Enter the phone number to use from the list above. Click on the Next button.
- Enter your Dial-in username in the "Username" area and your "Dial-in password"
in the "Password" area. Then click on the Next button.
- Click on "My Internet Service Provider automatically assigns me one" option for
how to obtain your IP address. Click on the Next button.
- Enter 208.0.145.7 for "DNS Server" and 208.0.145.2 for
"Alternate DNS Server".
Click on the Next button.
- If the box next to "Use Internet Mail" is not check, click on it to check it.
Then enter your e-mail address for "E-Mail Address" and pop3.icubed.com
for "Internet
Mail Server". Click on the Next button.
- Select the default profile for Windows messaging (MS Exchange Settings). Make
sure that "Use this profile when starting Window Messaging" is checked. Click on
the Next button.
- Click on the Finish button to save your settings.
Configuring Exchange to use Internet mail
If you do not have an internet setup wizard, you can also configure Exchange to handle
internet mail. To do this, follow the procedure below.
- Click on the "Start" button, then select "Control Panel" from the "Settings" sub-menu.
- Open the "Mail and Fax" control panel.
- Click on the "Services" tab and make sure that "Internet Mail" is listed. If it is
not, then you must add this service. (Click on the "Add" button, then select "Internet
Mail" from the list of services given)
- Make sure that the "Internet Mail" service is highlighted, then click on the "Properties"
button.
- When the Internet Mail screen comes up, make sure that the "General" tab is selected.
Enter your real name for "Full Name", your E-mail address for "E-Mail Address",
pop3.icubed.com for "Internet Mail Server", your E-mail username
for "Account Name"
and your e-mail password for "Password".
- Click on the "Advanced Options" button.
- In the resulting screen enter smtp.icubed.com for "Forward all outbound mail to the
following mail server". Click on the "OK" button to save this information.
- Click on the "Connection" tab, then click on "Dial using the modem". Select a
dial-up networking connection that you have created from the list given by "Dial using the following connection".
If you wish to be able to compose message when not connected, click on "Work offline and use remote mail".
- Click on the "OK" button to save your changes.
- Click on the "OK" again to complete saving of your changes.
Setting up Internet Explorer 3.0x
Listed below is the procedure to follow for setting up Internet Explorer 3.0x using
the Internet Setup Wizard:
- Click on the "Next" button.
- Click on the "Manual" setup option, then click on the "Next" button.
- Click on the "Next" button.
- Click on "Connect using my phone line" and then click on the "Next" button
- Select the modem to use (Most people will have only one choice), then click on
the "Next" button.
- Enter "Infobahn" for the name of the service provider, then click on the Next button
- Enter the phone number from the list above that is a local call for you, then click
on the "Next" button.
- Enter your Dial-in username in the "Username" area and your "Dial-in password"
in the "Password" area. Then click on the "Next" button.
- Click on "My Internet Service Provider automatically assigns me one" option for
how to obtain your IP address. Click on the "Next" button.
- Enter 208.0.145.7 for "DNS Server" and 208.0.145.2 for
"Alternate DNS Server".
Click on the "Next" button.
- If the box next to "Use Internet Mail" is not check, click on it to check it.
Then enter your e-mail address for "E-Mail Address" and pop3.icubed.com
for "Internet
Mail Server". Click on the "Next" button.
- Select the default profile for Windows messaging (MS Exchange Settings). Make

- Click on the "Finish" button to save your settings.
You should now be able to open a connection simply by double-clicking on the "The
Internet" icon on the desktop, then clicking on the "Connect" button in the resulting
"Connect To" screen.
Setting up Internet Mail (included with IE 3.0)
If you have just installed Microsoft Internet Mail, the first time you run the program
you will be presented with the Internet Mail Configuration wizard. Here's what to
do to set up this program to send and receive mail:
- Click on the "Next" button.
- Enter your name in the "Name" field and your E-mail address in the "E-Mail Address"
field. Click on the "Next" button.
- Enter pop3.icubed.com for "Incoming Mail Server" and
smtp.icubed.com for "Outgoing
Mail Server". Click on the "Next"" button.
- Enter your E-Mail username for "E-Mail account" and your E-Mail password for "Password".
Click on the "Next" button.
- Click on "I use a modem to access my E-Mail", then select a dial-up networking
connection to use (Infobahn). Click on the "Next" button.
- Click on the "Finish" button to save your settings.
Setting up Internet News (included with IE 3.0)
If you have freshly installed Internet News, the program will open a setup wizard the first time the program
is run. Here's how to configure things:
- Click on the Next button.
- Enter your name in the "Name" field and your E-mail address in the "E-Mail Address"
field. Click on the "Next" button.
- Enter news.icubed.com for "News Server". Make sure that "My news server requires
me to logon" is NOT checked.
- Click on "I use a modem to access my newsgroups", then select a dial-up networking
connection to use (Infobahn). Click on the "Next" button.
- Click on the "Finish" button to save your settings.
