Macintosh and Internet Explorer Configuration
This document will give you the instructions for setting up Microsoft Internet Explorer
for the Macintosh (version 2.1). It is broken into the following sections:
- Installing the Microsoft Internet Explorer starter kit
- Creating a dial-in connection
- Configuring Eudora Lite E-mail
Installing the Microsoft Internet Explorer starter kit
Here's how to install the software (FreePPP 2.5, Internet Explorer 2.1 and Eudora
Lite 1.5.4) that comes on the floppies:
- Insert the Disk 1 into your floppy drive.
- When the disk appears on the desktop, double-click on it to view the contents of
the disk.
- Double-click on the Installer icon.
- Click on the "Install" button. (If you already have a later version of FreePPP
or Eudora Lite installed you may want to select Custom Setup, then specify the options.)
- Follow the instructions given by the program.
- Restart your Macintosh when the installer is finished and you are prompted to restart.
Creating a Dial-in Connection
After you have run the installer and restarted your Macintosh, the front-most window
showing should be the Internet Explorer 2.1 folder. Within this window there should
be an icon called "Internet Connection Wizard". Double-click on this icon to start
the program and then do the following:
- Click on the "Next" button.
- Click on the Manual setup option, then on the "Next" button.
- Click on "Connect using my phone line" and then on the "Next" button.
- Choose the modem type that matches your from the list given (if your does not appear,
simply select a "standard modem" with your modem's nominal speed). Select the communications
port to which your modem is attached (internal modems are always on the modem port). Click on
the "Next" button.
- Enter your areas code (412) and the first 3 digits of your phone number, then click
on the "Next" button.
- Select the dialing properties that match your phone line. (If you have a touch-tone
phone, use *70 to turn off call waiting. Use 1170 to turn off call waiting if you
have a pulse phone). Click on the "Next" button when complete.
- When prompted for the "Name of Service Provider", enter Infobahn, then click on
the "Next" button.
- Enter the phone number that is a local call for you from the list above. The click
on the "Next" button.
- When prompted for "Username", enter your dial-in username. Enter your dial-in
password when prompted for "Password". Click on the "Next" button to continue.
- Click on "My Internet Service Provider automatically assigns me one" when asked
how to obtain you IP address. Click on the "Next" button.
- Enter 208.0.145.2 for "DNS Server" and 192.156.226.50 for "Alternate DNS server".
Click on the "Next" button to continue.
- Click on the "Next" button (no PPP script is necessary).
- Click on the "Finished" button to complete the setup and save your changes.
You should now be able to log into our service using a connection called "Infobahn".
Configuring Eudora Lite E-mail
The first time that you start Eudora Lite you will be prompted for some configuration
information. Here's what to do:
- In the "Getting Started" area enter your e-mail
username@pop3.icubed.com (for example,
sean@pop3.icubed.com) for the "POP account". Enter your name for "Real
Name".
- Click on the "Personal Information" icon on the left side of the window. Note
that your "POP account" and "Real Name" should already be filled in. Enter your
e-mail username@icubed.com (for example, sean@icubed.com) for the "Return Address".
- Click on the "Hosts" icon on the left side of the window. Again, note that the
"POP account" section should be already filled in. Enter smtp.icubed.com for the
"SMTP" and >B>infobahn.icubed.com for the "Ph" and "Finger" sections. Click on the "OK"
button to save your changes.
You should now be ready to send/recieve e-mail. To check for mail, simply select
"Check Mail" from the "File" menu, then enter your e-mail password in the resulting
dialog. Eudora will then check for and download any new messages for you.
