Getting Started with Windows ME (Millenium Edition)


The instructions below will show how to configure your computer to connect to Infobahn International, Inc. using Windows ME. This document has the following sections:


Setting up your Dial-up Connection and Mailbox using the Internet Connection Wizard

You can start the Internet Connection Wizard one of three ways. The first is to double-click on Internet Explorer icon on your desktop (assuming that this is a new installation of Windows ME). The second way is to double-click the "Connect to the In ternet" icon on your desktop. The third way to start the Internet Connection Wizard is to go into the Internet Options control panel, click on the Connection tab and then on the Setup button. Once you have started the Internet Setup Wizard, here's what to do:

  1. Click on "I want to set up my Internet Connection manually, or I want to connection through a local area network (LAN)". Click on the Next button.

  2. Click on "I connect through a phone line and a modem" (Do this even if you are using an ISDN connection). Click on the Next button.

  3. Enter the area code and phone number that would be a local call for you (from the list of dial-up numbers) in the appropriate areas. Make sure that "Dial using the area code and country code " is checked. Click on the Advanced button.

  4. When the "Advanced Connection Properties" screen appears, click on the Addresses tab. Under "DNS server addresses" click on "Always use the following" and then enter:

    Primary DNS server: 208.0.145.7
    Alternate DNS server: 208.0.145.2

    Click on the OK button.

  5. Click on the Next button.

  6. Enter your dial-up username and password (given above) in the "User Name" and "Password" areas. Click on the Next button.

  7. Change the "Connection Name" to Infobahn and then click on the Next button.

  8. Click on Yes when asked if you want to set up an Internet mail account now and then click on the Next button.

  9. Click on "Create a new Internet mail account" and then click on the Next button.

  10. Enter your mail for the "Display Name" and then click on the Next button.

  11. Enter your e-mail address (as given on the previous page) and then click on the Next button.

  12. Make sure that "My incoming mail server is a" POP3 server. Enter the following server names:

    Incoming Mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server: pop3.icubed.com
    Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: smtp.icubed.com

    Click on the Next button.

  13. Enter your e-mail username (from the previous page) for the "Account Name". Enter your e-mail password in the "Password" area. Make sure that the box next to "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is not checked. Click on the Nex t button.

  14. Click on the Finish button.

Your computer should now dial into our system.


Turning Off Call Waiting

  1. Open the Control Panel (Click on the Start button, Settings and then click on Control Panel)

  2. Open the Telephony control panel. (If you cannot see this control panel, you may need to click on "View all Control Panel Options")

  3. Click on "My Locations" tab (if it is not the active tab).

  4. Make sure that "To disable call waiting, dial" is checked. The select *70, from the drop-down list (if you have a touch-tone phone. If you have a pulse phone select 1170,)

  5. Click on the Apply button and then the OK button.


Activating on 10-Digit Dialing

  1. Open the Control Panel (Click on the Start button, Settings and then on Control Panel)

  2. Open the Telephony control panel(If you cannot see this control panel, you may need to click on "View all Control Panel Options")

  3. Click on the "My Locations" tab.

  4. Click on the Area Code Rules tab.

  5. Under "When calling within my area code" make sure there is a check next to "Always dial the area code (10-digit dialing)". Click on the OK button.

  6. Click on the Apply button and then the OK button.
