Technical Support Area -- How Do I Eliminate Hang-Ups?
Infobahn International, Inc. is currently in the process of upgrading
our modems to handle the 56K Flex standard. Some users have reported
dail-up problems since we began the upgrade. In most cases they had no
problems connecting before. If this describes you, and you see one or
more of the following symptoms:
- Your modem and ours never synchonize their speeds (i.e. The
shrieking you hear after our modem picks up never stops).
- You seem to connect successfully, but your web
browser/e-mail client don't work, either using a hostname (i.e
http://www.icubed.com) or an IP address (i.e. http://208.0.145.2). If
this happens the connection was usually closed as PPP started.
- You messages to the effect that "a compatible set of network
protocols could not be negotiated" (Especially when using Windows 95).
- You see very low connect speeds (typically 1200 bps or 2400
bps) when using a 14.4 kbps or 28.8 kbps modem.
Here's what to try:
- Enter 3 commas after the phone number you dial (i.e.
876-6100,,,). This tells our modem to turn off the 56K Flex portion of
its software. You should connect as before, only the maximum speed will
be limited to 33,600 bps.
- Check to make sure that you have the latest modem drivers, INF
files, and firmware on your modem. We know that this will fix problems
with the following modems:
- IBM MWave modems (Firmware upgrade needed)
- Zoltrix HSP modems (Software upgrade needed)
- U.S. Robotics Sportster 33.6 modems (Software upgrade
needed)
- Practical Peripherals 28.8 modems (Software and Firmware
upgrade needed)
