The earliest record of Henry Morrow (1760-1841) comes from the
PA Archives, 3rd Series, Vol 20 on page 530, which is a list of taxes collected
from Cumberland County, Pa. Here in 1781, Henry is shown as residing in
Montgomery Township as a freeman - which means he is over 21 and still
single. (NOTE: Montgomery Township was founded in 1781 from a part of Peters
Township.) In 1781 he married Elizabeth Hannah and together they began
a family of what would be ten children. Henry also served with his brother,
James in Capt. Walter McKinney's (McKinnie) 8th Co, 4th Bat of the Cumberland
County Militia in 1782. This information gathered from PA Archives, 3rd
Series, Vol 23. In 1794, Henry and his family including his widowed mother-in-law,
moved west to Pitt Township just east of Pittsburgh, Pa. There he settled
on a tract of approximately 340 acres inherited by Henry and his brother
James from their father-in-law, William Hannah. The plantation was named
"The Flying Shuttle". Back east Henry and his family attended the Presbyterian
Church of East Conococheague, their membership was transfered to Beulah
Presbyterian Church where Henry became an elder and was eventually buried
next to his wife, Elizabeth. Henry's will
is filed in Allegheny County, PA.
