The earliest record of our James Morrow (1755-1826) comes from the PA Archives, 3rd Series, Vol 20 on page 91, which is a list of taxes collected from Cumberland County, Pa. Here in 1778, James is shown as residing in Peters Township as a freeman - which means he is over 21 and still single. In 1779 he married Sarah Hannah and together they began a family of what would be ten children. James also served with his brother, Henry in Capt. Walter McKinney's (McKinnie) 8th Co, 4th Bat of the Cumberland County Militia in 1782. This information gathered from PA Archives, 3rd Series, Vol 23. In 1785, James and his family moved west to St. Clair Township just south of Pittsburgh, Pa. There he purchased 163 acres, naming his plantation Millgrove. The property was warrented on October 12, 1785, surveyed on December 21, 1786 and finally patented on December 7, 1790. The family joined the Bethel Presbyterian Church where James became an elder in 1795. After his wife Sarah died in 1815, James married Agness (Nancy) Lesnett Vance a daughter of Christian Lesnett of St. Clair and widow of John Vance. The couple did not have any children. James is buried in Bethel Cemetery next to his first wife. His will is filed in Allegheny County, Vol. 3, pg. 157. His second wife, Agness is also buried in Bethel Cemetery, however she is next to her first husband John Vance. Her will and her first husband, John Vance's will are filed in Allegheny County.
