As early as 1753, William Hannah is found on the Cumberland County Tax Lists residing in Antrim Township near the town of Greencastle, Pa. as he did until his death in 1785. A reference to William can also be found in the PA Archives, 3rd Series, Vol 25, pg 529 which is a warrantee of 300 acres on January 10, 1772 in what was then Bedford County, Pa. Family tradition has that this land was from a grant in 1723 to William Hannah from Thomas Penn and his brother John and at one time the original sheepskin was in possession of a Morrow relative. The property became part of Westmoreland County when it was organized in 1773 and then finally was given to Allegheny County in 1788 where it remains today.

William married Elizabeth McDowell who was the daughter of John (d. 1770) and Jean McDowell also of Antrim Township. Together William and Elizabeth had atleast five children, two of which - Sarah and Elizabeth married the Morrow brothers James and Henry. After William's death its seems most of his family eventually relocated to the Pittsburgh, Pa area including his wife, Elizabeth who lived with her daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law, Henry. William's will is filed in Franklin County, Pa and his wife's will is filed in Allegheny County.
