The Backstreet Boys managed to whip up exactly the kind of frenzy they
were shooting for when tickets
for every date of the group's upcoming U.S. tour went on sale over
the weekend.
Fans lined up for days and scarfed up some 765,000 tickets on Saturday,
prompting the Boys to squeeze
in 13 additional dates in 12 cities. As a result, the tour will kick
off on September 14 in Fort Lauderdale,
one day earlier than the trek was originally slated to begin in that
same city.
The rush means an avalanche of $30 million in one-day sales as every
show on the 39-city tour sold out. It
also means that a lot of teen girls camped out, braving rain in New
York, for a crack at tickets.
"This is my first time coming to stay out to get tickets," one fan noted.
"I never thought I'd be that
desperate, but I guess times do come to you when you get desperate."
"It's our first concert, and I think we deserve it," another observed.
"We're true fans. I don't think
anyone else would stand out in the rain for any artist. Some people
would, but we're true fans and we stay
out in the rain, pouring like this." [RealVideo]
