If you are a teen music star, it appears as though Jive Records is now
the record label of choice.
Sources at Jive Records tell LAUNCH that the label--already home to
the Backstreet Boys, Britney
Spears, and up-and-coming teen acts Steps and Imajin--has added 'N
Sync to its roster. The source says
that an official announcement will be made within the next several
days. Comment from RCA Records, 'N
Sync's former home, was unavailable at press time. The group's self-titled
RCA album has sold
approximately 6.8 million copies, according to SoundScan data. hint
of things to come is expected to be
offered to the public at the MTV Video Music Awards tonight, as Spears
is scheduled to perform with
her new labelmates 'N Sync.
RCA and Jive are both distributed through BMG. When 'N Sync's contract
with RCA expired, Jive
apparently snapped up the group. However, a BMG spokesperson has claimed
in published reports that
the group is signed to Transcontinental, which has a licensing agreement
with BMG. 'N Sync's upcoming
sophomore album, No Strings Attached, is now set to be released on
Jive, according to a source and a
songwriter working on the project.
Transcontinental Records informed LAUNCH that the group's manager Johnny
Wright was in transit, and
not available for comment at press time.
