got a little chunky.

the tour.

Nick_Carter: I do not know exactly right now but, soon the dates will be shown.

dancers suit

Nick_Carter: As I tried to get off the suit to perform, my shoes got caught in the suit so, I decided to
take my shoes off.

Nick_Carter: As I climbed up the ramp to go to the center of the stage, I found out a little too late that
It was slippery so,

Nick_Carter: on the way down, I almost fell and hurt myself.

Nick_Carter: It was pretty embarrassing being the fact that George Lucas was in the audience.

4 long years of readin' writin' and rhythm during their stint at Orlando's High School where students AJ
McLean, Howie Dorough and even younger junior high student Nick Carter found each other at local acting
auditions. Inspired by groups Boyz II Men and Color Me Badd, the boys formed a singing group and added
two more for good measure, Kevin Richardson and his cousin Brian Littrell. Four years later Backstreet Boys
are top of the charts with their self-titled album, and kicking off a tour of the US. You will have the chance
to cut in with each of them during this chat. Welcome, Howie and Kevin! The other members, AJ and Nick will

MTVRock: WHATS THEIR NEXT CD/CASSETTE GOING TO BE LIKE ??

Howie: The next single is going to be As long as you love me

Kevin: If you wondering about the new album... We're currently writing and on the 4th we go to Stockholm,
Swedenl..to record some tracks with Dennis Pop and Max Martin.

MTVRock: Do you ever wish that you hadn't gotten into the music biz?

Howie: Never, it's the best thing that ever happened to me

Kevin: Music will always be a part of my life.

MTVRock: Are you going to put "if you stay" on an any album?

Howie: It was on the "Booty Call" soundtrack it might be a "b" side to an upcoming single

MTVRock: Do you ever get wary of all the attention?

Kevin: Sometimes you would like to go unnoticed. But overall, we're all pretty much hams and we love the
attention.

MTVixen: Are you planning to release "Everybody" here in the US? Great track!!! Love the remixes as well

Howie: It might be a bonus track on the upcoming single or on the next album

Kevin: We would like you and everybody you can muster up to voice your opinion... to radio stations...and
possibly...our record company... because we're contemplating releasing it in the States...and on the next
reprint

Kevin: of the album adding the track.

MTVRock: How did you come up with the name Backstreet Boys?

Kevin: Backstreet Boys comes from the Backstreet Market in Orlando, Florida... it's like a flea market when
it's not a flea market it's a big parking lot... where people hang out. But now they've built a new building on
the lot. So it no longer exists. Nick has entered the building!!! AJ is in the house.

MTVRock: do you have girlfriends?

AJ: no, but we do date

Nick: Um...no but we date. (Kevin) no serious relationship right now...

MTVixen: (about computing) Do you guys do this often?

Kevin: not often enough.

Howie & AJ: Not as often as we'd like to

Nick: I love to play video games...so I do it alot online.

MTVRock: what are your ages?

Howie: 24

Nick: 17

Kevin: 26 tomorrow actually, (Brian) 22, but he's not here.

MTVixen: When is the video for "I'll Never Break Your Heart" coming out in the US??? I love that song!

Kevin: That won't come out until we release it as a single.

MTVRock: What influences the lyrics you guys write?

Kevin: Anything...something that happens to you during the day...a girl you might meet...

Howie: Experiences in our past

Kevin: something a friend might say...problems you're going through.

AJ: Personal Experiences on a day-to-day basis

MTVRock: When was the first time you guys all met up with each other?

Kevin: May of 1993

Howie & AJ: We all met first time May of 1993 BckStreet2: Howie: Nick, AJ and myself meet and then
Kevin and Brian came along later

MTVixen: do u all like doing photo shoots?

Howie: Yeah, they can be fun

Kevin: At first I loved it...now sometimes it gets monotonous...but, it's fun when we do creative stuff..

MTVRock: First of all, you guys are really hot(espescially nick), anyway, what do you look for in a girl?

Nick: Basically somebody who can put up with our crazy schedule.

Howie: I look for someone with a great personality and a lot of self-confidence

Kevin: Obviously she'd have to be someone I was attracted to... But not only physically, but personality, sense
of humor, intelligence...

AJ: Spontaneous, outgoing, good personality, ----I love long nails

Nick: Don't believe AJ.

Nick: A singer from a group called "Journey" Steve Perry...also KC-I and JoJo

AJ: Groups like the Temptations, New Edition especially, Boyz to Men, and AJ: and other vocal harmony
groups

Kevin: Prince...Elton John...Sting...Vocal groups likes Boys II Men...New Edition... The Temptations.

Howie: John Secada, Philip Bailey, and Bobby Brown

MTVixen: do u guys have any animals or rodents

Kevin: Nope. I wouldn't be able to take care of them, becoz I'm never home.

AJ: I have two dogs, a daschund at my parents and at mine, I have a cross between

Nick: I have two cats...three dogs...and some fish.

AJ: a boxer and rhodesian ridgeback and her name is delilah!

Nick: German sheppard and his name is "Sampson"...

Howie: My sister has a Pekenise and Hymalian cat.

Nick: Small Schnauzer named "Pepper"... also a Golden Lab named "Simba" also I made a mistake...I have one
more cat...their names are "Bandit", "Sugar"... and "Rocky."

AJ: I pick the skin off my fingers

MTVRock: a question about NYC...: So, what your favorite thing about being back in NY??

Howie: the dirty water hot dogs and NY pizza. AJ: NY women!!!!

Nick: the weather. (Kevin) the energy of the city. The clubs.

MTVixen: did you ever work with puff daddy???

Kevin: no but I've met him.

AJ: No, but we would like to

Nick: What nicknames...

Howie: The guys call me Sweet "D" because they say they have a big heart

AJ: The guys call me bone because I'm skinny and I wear a lot of jewelery

Kevin: Brian got his name "B-Rok" because Rok is another name for basketball, and he's a basketball fanatic.

Howie: It was tribal vodoo bones that AJ wore. AJ: and our security guard started calling me that

MTVRock: what is the funniest thing that has happened to you on tour?

Howie: I fell off stage one time

Nick: AJ got caught up in Obie who is our percussionist player.

AJ: I brought our precussion section down, the whole thing crashed on stage

Nick: AJ got his shirt caught up in our percussionist player cymbals. and knocked the whole set over during a
show. In Hamburg at a show...the airport made our mics malfunction. at the time...it sucked, but now it's kinda
funny.

MTVixen: What do you guys think about before you go on stage?

Kevin: Putting on a good show.

Howie: About being prepared. Making sure that we have our mics and all of our clothes on us

Nick: get excited, nervous, lots of adrenaline... (Nick) I think about what I ate.

AJ: Making sure my zipper is up and my shoes are tied

MTVRock: How long do you plan to keep singing?

Howie: As Long as you love me

Kevin: Awww, Howie how sweet.

AJ: How creative

Nick: until we can do a cane routine.

MTVixen: WHat really irritates you guys?

Kevin: Racism...(Nick) Liars...

AJ: People that are pushy, and disrespectful people..

Kevin: when you're eating and people leave one cookie or chip in the bowl.

Howie: When people call me AJ. Howie: People who are selfish irritate me, people who think about themselves

MTVRock: If you could do something else other than sing, what would you do?

Howie: Be an actor

Nick: Howie stop lying.

AJ: I would be a dancer with circus monkeys. Howie: I'm not lying Nick

Kevin: Yes. We co-produced most of our stuff on the new album as far as vocals go.

Howie D of The Backstreet Boys!!! The Backstreet Boys launched their first major US tour a week ago and
Yahoo!Chat is gonna be catching up with them all summer long live from their tour with FIVE cyberchats!
Thanks Howie for joining us here today.

Howie D: Hi! Welcome everybody Look forward to having a good chat with everybody and answering as many
questions as we can in the time.. and hopefully have a lot of fun

Yahoo: Howie - have you ever done a cyberchat before??

Howie D: Yeah,actually I did. A couple of them actually. Over in Europe we did a couple, for MTV we did a
couple cyberchats. Lots of fun!

Q: how is your summer tour going?

Howie D: Its going great, we've done about 8 cities already, about 8 shows, actually our 8th show is today.
We've had a lot of fun. We had a rough start, but everything's starting to smooth out. We're having a great
tour here

Q: Who is opening on your North American tour?

Howie D: We have Aaron Carter, a group from Denmark called Soap and the English artist Jimmy Ray.

Q: Howie, when will you shave???

Howie D: When will I shave? What my face? My mustache? My hair? What exactly!?! My chest!?

Q: How do you put up w/ all those annoying little girls screaming during a concert?

Howie D: Aw, it's not annoying what guy wouldn't want to have a group of screaming girls around him. It's
cool. Its an adrenalin rush.

Q: when you aren't busy with your music...what do you all like to do in your spare time?

Howie D: I like to go out to clubs, hang with the guys, go to movies, enjoy life, do the normal everyday stuff
that I would do back home. Hang with my family.

Q: Do you think there is such a thing as backstreet power?

Howie D: We're not trying to have power, we're just trying to.. there's not girl power or boy power here,
we're just trying to have fun and live life positively.

Q: What is it like to be on tour without seeing your family and all your friends???

Howie D: it gets lonely at times, that's why we like to bring out our families every once in a while.. In
America I have family all over the place, so I'm not too lonely. I think everywhere, except for today, I've
had family .. so it's lots of fun.

Q: Where did you get the idea for the video "Everybody"?

Howie D: We just came together and said that not everybody's done another video like Thriller from the 80s
and we just wanted to do a 90s version. We had a great director who helped us develop our vision even
further.

Q: Who were your influences in music?

Howie D: Besides my older sister PollyAnna, I'd say certain artists such as Bobby Brown, Jon Secada, Phillip
Bailey, groups like Boys2Men, New Edition, ColorMeBadd.

Q: Is there any individual in the music industry, that you would love to work with?

Howie D: Hmmm... Jon Secada :D I like the Spanish/English thing and also BoysIIMen would be cool..
Babyface...

Q: Do you ever let fans backstage after a concert?

Howie D: Every once in a while when the situation is available or it's okay security wise.. It's as crowded as
it is so we usually have to get out pretty quickly, so we don't have people back there normally.

Q: Has livin' the life of a "backstreet boy" some what changed the relationship between your family and
friends back home? - Michelle Corpuz

Howie D: its definitely increased my popularity and my famiy's popularity. I have a lot more people who know
me know than before and my family. It's changed the amount of time I could spend with family

Q: if you weren't a backstreet boy right now what would you be doing?

Howie D: I'd probably be definitely doing something in the entertainment field.. whether in acting or singing..
acting for movies or tv shows.. or becoming a solo artist or something.

Q: What's the craziest thing one of your fans has done??

Howie D: There were a couple who stowed away on our bus one time.. . we were over in Europe at the time...
we didn't know it for a while then had to pull over to a rest stop and drop them off.. We had a few come over
from Europe and bring me Gummi Bear cakes... b/c I said I liked them in a magazine one time.. That was
pretty crazy.

Q: What's coming up on your next album?

Howie D: A lot more material co-written by us and co-produced by us.

Q: What are your guys' fave songs that u perform?

Howie D: My favorite songs are "All I have to give", "BackStreet's Back" and "Get Down"

Q: Do you ever get jealous of each other?

Howie D: No, never! No, we're really cool with each other, we're like a family.

Yahoo: Howie's computer connection is a wee bit shaky - we're having tech problems - but he'll be booted

Howie D: Nope, not yet. I don't really believe in them too too much, but I'm open minded in them for the
future, if I saw a cool design...

Q: Is it true that you are interested in doing a movie?

Howie D: Well, there's been talk about it, but we haven't really decided on doing one yet, because our music
career's really taking off now, and we're really concentrating on that... But maybe in the future

Q: when you guys disagree on things, who's the peacemaker?

Howie D: I am the Peace Maker! I am the one. I am the chosen one. They say, I don't try to be the peace
maker, I just try to keep harmony in the group, make peace and love.

Q: What's the funniest thing that's happened on this tour so far?

Yahoo: That's a tough question I guess... - maybe this cyberchat because Howie keeps losing his computer
connection! Don't worry - he'll be back. He's been talking to us in the Yahoo! backstage area and he says

stage.

Q: If could have any superpower, what would you chose?

Howie D: To see the future. And read people's minds

Howie D: I'd probably go to the White House and stand next to the President the whole day.

Howie D: Going to a tropical island with my family or a date and spend a relaxing weekend there. All on the

Howie D: AJ without a doubt!

Q: Where do you picture yourself in ten years?

Howie D: Hopefully going very strong with BSB and us still at the top of the charts If not, involved in the

Howie D: I think our music is definitely going to grow with our fans...As music changes, our styles might
change a little bit but not too drastic, Hopefully we'll get a little R&B but we won't stray away from our pop
roots

Howie D: Sure sometimes when you're in your room and you're all alone and there's not much going on, but I
try to make things happen

Howie D: We all have our moments, but the guys would probably say me. That's just when I'm uncomfortable
and I dont know people that well.

Q: do you ever get stage fright?

Howie D: Every once in while when we're doing a big show, or when I know there's somebody in the audience
that I know like a family member.

Q: Which video did you enjoy making the most?

Howie D: Probably Everybody's Back Streets Back

Q: how do you fell about being young sex symbols????

Howie D: We don't really consider ourselves sex symbols, but we just go out there and try to put on an
entertaining show...and if people think of us like that, as long as they respect our music first, we're cool with
that. It doesn't really bother us.

Q: What is the best thing a girl could do to win your heart?

Howie D: I guess just be real with me, show me that she cares for me as a person and not just as a BSB and
also be very supportive of my career and my lifestyle.

Q: What is the best thing about being a Backstreet Boy?

Howie D: Getting a chance to travel around the world, see different countries and meet people every day, and
make people happy with our music

Q: I am really proud of all the accomplishments you all have made, can you believe you have made it this far?

Howie D: I sometimes have to take a step back and look at all our accomplishments and

Howie D: Be persistent and be sincere about your craft. Don't give up and shoot always for the stars and

Yahoo!: Last night the BSB boys were in Yahoo!'s home town of San Francisco and so we went with A.J., Kevin
and Howie to Phantom of the Opera. A.J. told us in his last chat that he had never seen it. I hear that
everyone had a terrific time! We also saw their concert in San Francisco---they ROCKED!

Yahoo!: Nick is Here!!!!!

Yahoo!: Welcome Nick!

Q: Nick, you're great!!! I love you. Do you ever feel like you missed out because you never played high school
sports, attended the prom, or went to graduation because you were tutored?

Nick: Of course I do. I think it was a definite sacrifice to make in order to do this...But at the same time I
wouldn't give this up for the world, but again as I've said there are things I wish I could've done.

Q: What would you do if you only had twenty four hours to live?

Nick: I would play some Nintendo! No... I would call anybody everybody I knew...I would just try to have a
whole day with everybody I knew so I could see them one last time.

Yahoo!: What would be the song you would want to sing on that day?

Nick: I would have to sing, it's a church song I used to sing with my great grandfather who passed away. It
would be Amazing Grace. I used to sing it with my great grandfather. He used to play the organ in church and
I used to sing when I went over to his house while he played.

Q: Nick, Why did u cut your hair???????

Nick: Well, you must be talking recently...but I didn't cut my hair, well I did, I had to trim it down because
it was getting way too long.. in the Teen People issue people were saying how it was way too long and I was
getting kind of tired of that. Plus, summertime came around and it was getting way too hot.

Q: Who's Your Fave Spice Girl?

Nick: I don't have a favorite Spice Girl, simple as that :) They were cool enough for what they are, but I
never really got into them all that much.

Q: What is the worst part being famous?

Nick: I'm never really home that much .. I'm always touring and I really don't have a chance to relax chill and
do nothing. Recently I did, but we're always touring.. so really being home and seeing all my family and
friends.

Q: Where's the best place you've ever traveled since being in the Backstreet Boys?

Nick:I dont know.. Austrlia was really nice. Spain was really nice.. Pretty much just places that have been on
the beach. I like the ocean, so that's probably why I really like those places so much.

Q: What do you really look for in a girl and be honest does good looks, and a good body really matter?

Nick: I think a girl should, in general what I look for is somebody who can handle the pressures and things
that I do. A lot of the reasons we don't have girlfriends is because of all the pressures we undertake.. I mean
you have to be attracted to a person, but you can put a not so good looking girl next to a gorgeous girl and if
the not so good looking girl has a better personality, then you'll go that way. Some people will say "yeah
right"

Q: what is your favorite animated cartoon show?!

Nick: Just recently I went to the movie Quest for Camelot.

Q: Who's the most crazy, Brian, AJ or you?

Nick: I think AJ is crazy. If you wanna put someone as crazy, it's him.. He's got a very big outlook on life..
he does anything he wants to do.. he colors his hair.. he's just a crazy cool type of guy.

Q: What are you wearing at the moment?

Nick: I'm wearing a warm up suit and Nikes.

Q: What is it like being the youngest in the group?

Nick: I get a lot of slack sometimes.. the guys pick on me alot cause I'm the youngest but that's the role that
younger brothers play you know what I'm saying?

Q: Hi Nick!! Have you ever gone skinny dipping? And if not will you ever?

NIck: Yeeeaaaah I have, but I was by myself.. my parents were gone and I was like "why not?"

Q: Who is the coolest celebrity you've met so far?

Nick: Henry Winker -- the Fonz -- he was a really cool guy.

Q: If you could sing a duet with anyone, who would it be?

Nick: I would do it with Steve Perry.

Q: How do you think you have changed since becoming so famous?

Nick: I'd like to hope that I haven't changed. If any one tells me that I have, I try to fix it. I want to stay
the same. I don't consider myself any better than anyone out there and just want to continue doing what I'm
doing and enjoying what I'm doing.

Q: If you could have a super power for a day what would it be and why?

Nick: I would have to have the ability to clean up the ocean. To help the world in some way.. if that question
was asked to somebody they'd say I'd love to have super jumping powers, I'd like to give back to the world,
and if I can't do that I'd want to do something else for it.

Q: What is the name of Nick's new pupppy??

Nick: My new puppy.. I actually had two pugs and their names are Mikey and Willie and got a new one named
Houston, because I got her in Houston. I sent her home from the road, because she was a real small puppy and
it wasn't good for her out there.

Q: Does BSB ever chat online with fans incognito?

Nick: Yes they do.

Q: First of all, I wanna say hi! My name is Isabelle, I'm 16 and I'm from quebec... my question is : Nick do
you believe in love at first sight?

Nick: I dont know, I think you'd have to experience it first. I haven't had that yet.

Q: What is your biggest fear in life?

Nick: My biggest fear in life would have to be... well I really can't stand sharks although I'm fascinated by
them. Well not that I can't stand them, but my fear is being in the water and being attacked by them. But I'd
really have to say flying, I hate flying...if there's an opportunity to take a bus or fly, I'd rather take a bus.
I don't want to step on a plane where you don't have control...

Q: If you were a girl, which backstreet boy would you like the most?

Nick: I'd have to say... probably none of them. ...LOL...

Q: What did you do to celebrate your 18th birthday?

Nick: Just a nice cake and that was it.

Q: What is your most prized possesion?

Nick: I have a lot of prized possessions... my beanie baby collection.. I collect beanies like crazy. I have a lot
of them...about 102 or something like that.. but I'm trying to get the whole collection which is really hard.. so
if anybody out there can help me ;-) Also, I collect comic books.. the only ones are Aliens and Predator. But
my most prized possession would be my family.

Q: What was your big break into music?

Nick: When I met the fellas.. that was the big break... the actual starting of a long time, hopeful, success.

Q: What cd have you worn out the most playing?

Nick: Hmmmm...I've probably worn out some Journey CDs like crazy.. I played Raised on Radio forever...Also
I played out -- not a lot of people like it, but the Hammer album .. The Funky Headhunter album.. I played it
so much I ruined that CD...then I bought another one and lost that one...and lost another one, so I've
contributed to the Hammer foundation :-) I used to play it when I played video games a lot.. but that's me,
I'm a weird person ;-)

Q: What's it like on the tour bus?

Nick: Can be hectic, very claustrophobic, can be fun at times when you can play video games in the back.
That's the best.. I love playing video games.

Q: What video did you have the most fun making?

Nick: Probably BackStreet's Back.. although it was really long.. it took 3 days -- day and night we were
working...it was hectic but it was fun.. I mean when you saw the final cut.

Q: Sara 15, UK What's the craziest rumour you've ever heard about yourself or the band?

Nick: Craziest rumor... Well... I can name a series of rumors.. I would like to start off with everyone thinking
I was gay. I'm not gay. Also that I was leaving the group.. I'm not. I heard another one that I was kicked off
the tour on the way to the show -- don't know how that could happen.. That's a couple of them.

Q: H Nick I was just wondering if you guys watch any sports and if you do which ones and which teams,oh
yeah one more thing, do any of you watch wrestling?

Nick: I love wrestling. My favorite team is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.. I happen to be from Tampa, might as
well support the team... as a matter of fact right now they're playing Miami -- we're gonna kick their butts.
And I like the Oakland Athletics.. and I'm rooting for McGuire. And, also I've been looking for a green
Oakland A's batting practice jersey for years!

Q: Why did Kevin throw you out of the dressing room in your green undies?

Nick: Cause he was a meanie head! No, what happened was, I dont know.. sometimes.. like I said, they pick on
me alot!

Q: Would you ever pose for Playgirl?

Nick: I dont think so. Come back and ask me that question in 10 years

Q: What the best part of preforming?

Nick: Actually seeing all the happy people out in the audience enjoying your music.. and having fun doing
something you love.

Q: Hey Nick! I was just wondering if the ring on your right hand middle finger is from someone special?

Nick: It's a promise ring from a best friend of mine -- just to be friends.

Q: I love BSB's music because it is about a real love for music and the fans. What do you think makes BSB's
music unique?

Nick: I think it's a music of different types of music. It's a mixture of R&B, pop and dance music. There are
a lot of people out there who like variety. There's even a bit of a rock edge on the allbum.. I like Metallica,
Nirvana, I like Snoop, R Kelly -- all different types of music, Journey.

Q: What's your next video gonna be?

Nick: We dont know yet. We pretty much don't have a next video yet.

Q: What is the funniest thing that has happened this US tour so far? :)

Nick: Well.. there was one show where I ripped the back of my pants out...and we had ducked down, done a
move or something, it felt like it ripped, but I was like "maybe not"... but then I felt this breeze coming up
from somewhere and I put my hand back there and I could actually touch my whole butt! That was pretty bad.

Q: Nick,what kind of pizza is your favorite?

Nick: Cheese, lots of cheese, tons of cheese. I'll never forget, we were up in Canada somewhere and me and
Brian were up watching a Dodgers game or something and the pizza we ordered had cheese and inch thick! It
was gooey and cheesy! And then Piazza hit a homer to win the game -- it was pretty cool. And at that time we
were calling Mike Piazza "pizza face" because of his name.

Q: Describe a typical day.

Nick: There is type A, type B, Type C. Type A would be a normal tour day -- you sleep from 11 at night, you
just did a show, and then you sleep all the way until noon, 2 or 3. You wake up, pack and get on the bus and
travel to the venue, then you do it all again. Then there's type B, a promotional tour which is hell on earth --
well it can be fun too...but you're traveling all different places and working all hours of the day doing photo
shoots, television shoots... etc. Then there's type C: The day off. Which you just gotta love! :)

Q: Do you cook?

Nick: I can cook. I can cook seafood -- I love seafood. I also can cook Campbell's -- it's a great helper when
it comes to cooking. Put it in the pot and it's done... You'd think I was a chef --Chef Boyardee!
