More Family, and Help for Honduras
|
I was out on the road for a good reason, and found time to stop along the way to visit a cousin of mine. These are my cousin's kids Cooper, Case, and Paul on my bike. But let me tell you why I was out in the first place:
I have decided to take a few weeks off from real estate in March of 2005, and to volunteer my time helping the poor people of Honduras. I will be going as part of a Habitat Team sponsored by ProPapa Missions America. We will construct homes during our short stay to help protect Hondurans from the elements and improve their health.
The current homes in Honduras are poorly constructed 'shacks'. When finished, each family will have a solid cement block home including an indoor bathroom.
Although this will be my first trip to Honduras with the brigade, I'm sure that it won't be my last. I'll have a little digital camera to take pictures of the new friends I'm sure I'll make while working in their village.
If anyone is interested in going, be sure to visit ProPapa Missions America for more information or of course, you can always contact me.

Investment Club President Nathan Nedley Speaks With Telecom CFO
|
David Husband was surprised to be contacted by finance and investment management major
Nathan Nedley. As the chief financial officer (CFO) of Vodavi Technology, a
telecommunications company, Husband routinely talked to investors, but he didn't
expect that his latest group of investors would be university students.
Duquesne's Investment Club, led by Nedley as its president, had
never reached out to a CFO before as part of its investment research. They contacted
Husband to get more information about his company's acquisition plans, strengths
and weaknesses, and the outlook for its market.
The Investment Club wants to sharpen its research by contacting the CFOs of the
companies they target for their portfolio. In the past five years, the club has
grown the value of its portfolio from $50,000 to $75,000.
"Currently, the Investment Club students beat the market by five percent," said
Assistant Professor Vashishta Bhaskar, the Club's faculty advisor.
"I'm reasonably sure that our students can outperform a lot of the investment managers that are out there in the marketplace."

Remember to come to the What's News Page and look for the [Orange Crush] link. It has nifty pictures and some trivia from the 2004 season.

We're going to have regular updates (we hope) provided by a team member's mother, and photos that will rotate through the page that you can visit here on my website.
